About the position

Zurich North America is seeking a Professional Liability and Cyber Underwriting Manager for our Corporate segment. This critical leadership role will report directly to the Head of Corporate Accounts within the Professional Liability & Cyber Business Unit. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing a segment of the portfolio, executing growth strategies, driving rate and retention, and cultivating strong relationships with brokers and clients. The Corporate Accounts team focuses on the growth and placement of coverage lines for customers with revenues exceeding $750 million, including Cyber, Technology Errors & Omissions, Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Manufacturers Errors & Omissions, and Employed Lawyers. In this role, the manager will lead a team of underwriting professionals to execute on growth strategies that align with our Professional Liability and Cyber Growth Plans. This includes managing the renewal book of business, fostering new strategic relationships, and ensuring that the team meets or exceeds financial objectives. The manager will also be responsible for developing, training, and coaching underwriters, managing internal and external stakeholder relationships, and participating in leadership team meetings to provide guidance on policy implementation and change initiatives. The position requires a strong focus on managing key performance indicators related to rate, retention, and new business production. The manager will also oversee development plans for underwriters to ensure they have the necessary capabilities to drive business results. This role will be filled at either the Underwriting Manager I or Underwriting Manager II level, depending on the experience and skill set of the selected applicant.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and leading a team of underwriting professionals to execute on the growth strategy and opportunities that align with our Professional Liability and Cyber Growth Plans.
  • Executing strategy in line with underwriting objectives to meet/exceed the financial plan with a focus on the management of rate, retention, new business production, and other KPIs pertinent to the Professional Liability & Cyber Business Unit.
  • Managing the renewal book of business and fostering new strategic relationships.
  • Developing, training, and coaching a team of underwriters.
  • Managing internal (Claims, Actuary, Finance, etc.) and external (brokers and clients) stakeholder relationships.
  • Assisting underwriters with transaction management, ensuring timely responses for referrals and underwriting authority.
  • Managing relationships with key internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvement and ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
  • Participating and leading leadership team meetings to provide specialist guidance and enable the implementation of policies, projects, and change initiatives.
  • Contributing to the business growth strategy to align underwriting strategy with wider business goals.
  • Overseeing development plans for underwriters to ensure the capability exists to drive business results.
  • Recommending and implementing action plans after reviewing broker partner books of business and profit/growth results and trends.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing areas with a focus on Cybersecurity, Finance, Management Consulting, or 14 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an associate degree and 5 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area of Cybersecurity, Management Consulting, and 2 or more years of management experience for Manager II.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing areas with a focus on Cybersecurity, Finance, Management Consulting, or 10 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area for Manager I.
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area with focus on Cybersecurity, Finance, Management Consulting, or 8 or more years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
