About the position

The Professional Service Technician - Lead is responsible for leading a team of service technicians in a designated geographic area or project/customer assignment. This role focuses on responding to customer needs for service and maintenance of refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning systems commonly found in supermarkets, convenience stores, and cold storage facilities. The position emphasizes customer relations, technician development, and effective management of service operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of service technicians to respond to customer service needs.
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer relations.
  • Actively pursue personal development and support technician growth.
  • Screen, interview, and hire new technicians under the direction of the Service Manager.
  • Assist in quoting service and maintenance for new customer sites.
  • Implement training and provide ongoing professional development for technicians.
  • Coordinate technical support and guidance for service technicians.
  • Resolve conflicts and prioritize tasks among technicians and customers.
  • Coach and mentor newer team members to ensure compliance with systems and processes.
  • Perform routine maintenance on supermarket refrigeration systems and temperature-controlled merchandisers.
  • Manage truck inventory and maintain parts responsibly.
  • Complete necessary documentation and electronic communication accurately and timely.
  • Utilize hand-held devices for paperwork and invoicing requirements.
  • Identify and troubleshoot refrigeration systems and components effectively.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required; HVAC-R Technical School Degree preferred.
  • 7 years of field experience or 5 years with Certification from a Technical School for external candidates; 3 years as a Certified Technician for internal candidates.
  • Valid Driver's License and safe driving record.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of basic refrigeration and commercial refrigeration systems.
  • Strong leadership skills and business acumen.
