About the position

UPMC Hamot's Flagship CVT Surgeons is seeking a part-time Professional Staff Nurse to provide high-quality care to cardiac and vascular patients. This role involves participating in quality improvement efforts, supporting patient education, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient satisfaction and care outcomes. The position is scheduled for day shifts with flexibility, and does not require working on holidays, evenings, or weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in department or practice-specific quality improvement efforts.
  • Identifies opportunity for quality improvement to colleagues and management.
  • Takes personal responsibility in improving patient satisfaction with the quality of care and service.
  • Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, caring relationships with patients and staff.
  • Works productively within a complex environment, handling multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrates good clinical judgment and critical thinking in patient care.
  • Provides detailed teaching to patients and families throughout their care.
  • Supports the development of students and new staff.
  • Creates an environment of open dialogue and continuous development.
  • Formulates goals and a plan of care for patients, involving them as partners.
  • Triages patient situations and coordinates care with physicians.
  • Assists physicians with patient care, including assessment and education.
  • Practices solid communication skills to articulate patient conditions to care providers.
  • Documents patient care comprehensively to promote communication between caregivers.
  • Incorporates national professional organization goals to improve patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional development and quality of care.
  • Participates in practice-based shared governance and supports quality improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum six months experience preferred.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state or a state covered by a licensure compact agreement.
  • CPR certification required based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cardiac and vascular patients.
  • Experience using Epic.
