About The Position
Loyola University has one of the oldest and largest jazz programs in New Orleans. The School of Music and Theatre Professions (SMTP) offers a BM in jazz studies and also degrees in Music Business, Education and Therapy with an emphasis in jazz. There are 60 majors, minors and emphasis students in the program. The area's 14 adjunct faculty are all active performers and are drawn from New Orleans' finest musicians. The program offers 3 large ensembles and 6 combos plus a guitar ensemble, vocal jazz ensemble, and afro cuban percussion ensemble. Additionally, SMTP has a strong music business and popular/commercial offerings. New Orleans, as well as being the birthplace of jazz, also has a very active musical community and professional jazz scene.
