The Professor of Practice in Multimedia Journalism - Sports at SUNY Oswego is a full-time faculty position focused on teaching undergraduate courses related to sports journalism and media production. The role emphasizes applied learning and engagement with current industry trends, requiring the candidate to develop and update courses while actively participating in professional associations and producing creative work in the field. The position also involves student advising and contributing to departmental and university committees, all within a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in news writing, sports reporting, broadcast news producing, digital and social media journalism, podcasting, data journalism, media production, AI and journalism, esports journalism, and integrated media writing and design.
• Develop new courses and update existing courses in sports journalism to align with industry trends.
• Engage in faculty service, including student advising and participation in department and university committees.
• Demonstrate continued engagement in the industry through participation in professional associations and producing creative work for competitions, exhibitions, or publication.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in journalism or a related field.
• Professional experience producing news and sports content across multiple platforms such as television, web, social media, radio, podcast, print, and/or emerging platforms.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of AP Style, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and other relevant digital tools.
• Experience working with diverse students in a multicultural environment.
• Experience teaching or mentoring college students in face-to-face and online instructional settings.
