About the position

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a scholar at an open rank in the field of Ecological/Environmental Humanities. This position aims to enhance the existing strengths of the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature and the Department of Modern Language and Literatures. The successful candidate will focus on areas such as environmental aesthetics, ecocriticism, ecopoetics, ecomedia, and ecological thought, contributing to both literary and philosophical inquiries. The role includes supervising doctoral research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and participating in departmental initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise doctoral research.
  • Offer courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Contribute to the ongoing work of both the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature and the Department of Modern Language and Literatures.
  • Engage in research that complements existing strengths in ecological and environmental humanities.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field such as Environmental Humanities, Comparative Literature, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ecological/environmental humanities, particularly in areas like ecocriticism, ecomedia, or environmental aesthetics.
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
