About the position

The Program Admissions Coordinator/Academic Advisor at Anoka-Ramsey Community College is a full-time, temporary position focused on managing undergraduate student admission processes for the Urban Teacher Program. This role involves advising prospective and current students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, on the requirements for admission and navigating university educational supports. The position is grant-funded for approximately 13-15 months, with potential for extension based on performance and funding availability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, recommend, monitor and communicate undergraduate student admission processes and decisions for the Urban Teacher Program.
  • Serve as a prerequisite academic advisor for prospective and current students interested in teaching, guiding them through the admission process and university requirements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree plus one year of professional experience in academic advising, counseling, or student development in a higher education setting; OR Bachelor's degree plus two years of professional experience in a similar role; OR Earned NACADA Academic Advising Graduate Certificate and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience serving a racially, ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse student body.
  • Excellent, culturally responsive communication skills to effectively engage with students and faculty.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in advising theories, student success strategies, and retention practices.
  • Ability to communicate complex information regarding degree requirements and policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Earned teaching licensure through a non-alternative pathway.
  • Experience teaching in preK-12 settings, especially with diverse urban children or youth.
  • Experience providing academic advising through remote means.
  • Experience working with college students in areas such as orientation, academic success strategies, and financial literacy.
  • Ability to develop and implement retention strategies for diverse student populations.
