About the position

The Program Aide at W H Community House plays a crucial role in supporting the Head Start program by working collaboratively with teaching teams to implement educational standards and provide holistic services to preschool-aged children and their families. This part-time position focuses on creating a nurturing and professional environment that fosters children's growth and development while adhering to established guidelines and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Teacher in the assigned classroom by following directions and setting a professional atmosphere.
  • Ensure the classroom environment and materials promote optimal growth and development, adhering to Head Start and licensing standards.
  • Recognize and address the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs of each child, collaborating with parents and staff to plan effective curriculum and services.
  • Coordinate with staff to deliver comprehensive services for children and families, especially those needing extensive interventions.
  • Foster a strong home-school connection by being familiar with program policies and activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and program operations, adhering to agency policies.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff, parents, and community partners, encouraging participation in program activities.
  • Report emergencies and accidents to the Head Teacher and document them appropriately.
  • Follow mandated reporting protocols for suspected child abuse or neglect and practice universal precautions.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions as required.

Requirements

  • Some college coursework in early childhood education or a related field preferred.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certification is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working with preschool-aged children.
  • High school diploma or GED with two years of experience working with preschool-aged children.
