About the position

The Program Analyst - Charge Analyst position at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, WA, is responsible for ensuring compliance with billing rules and revenue integrity procedures. The role involves auditing, troubleshooting, and educating departments on charge reconciliation and documentation practices. This position is part of a multi-grade career ladder, allowing for progression based on performance and availability of higher-level work.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily audits are conducted and departments adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Implement approved changes and communicate them to relevant departments.
  • Troubleshoot issues and review revenue codes with department heads to ensure compliance.
  • Review suspended charges and provide feedback and education to departments.
  • Develop and maintain process documents for charge error resolution and revenue integrity procedures.
  • Educate departments on appropriate documentation and charging practices.
  • Submit changes through organization change control and educate on charge reconciliation procedures.
  • Trace transactions from Charge Entry to Billing to Financial Accounting.
  • Collaborate with the VA Managerial Cost Accounting team for reporting purposes.
  • Research third-party payer reimbursement policies and educate staff on requirements.
  • Establish effective working relationships with various departments to resolve coding and billing issues.
  • Support the development of training programs and materials related to billing and coding guidelines.
  • Write training documents, reports, newsletters, and interdepartmental correspondence.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 level in Federal service, or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, or one year of graduate education, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Specialized experience includes implementing quality improvement practices, creating reports, and evaluating data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in healthcare billing and coding practices.
  • Knowledge of VA billing rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with training program development and implementation.
