About the position

New Hanover County is hiring 2 dedicated Program Assistants for the Community Justice Services department. One with the Prevention Program and one with the Community Service & Restitution program. These positions will operate in various environments to include: working in an office setting, partial telework, and working alongside youth in a school setting and in the community. The Community Justice Services department provides an array of prevention and intervention programs and services targeted at preventing and reducing crime risk for the at-risk, diverted and offender populations through our Youth Empowerment Services and Adult Enhancement Services Divisions. Our citizen-focused team is comprised of 39 dedicated professionals who work with youth, adults and families to increase the likelihood that they will become productive members of society. Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the activities of the prevention programs.
  • Providing the programs in high schools or community centers.
  • Assisting in outreach and recruitment for the program through community networking.
  • Addressing inquiries of the public regarding the operations and activities of programs and services available through the department.
  • Assisting with the preparation and compilation of reports and related documents detailing department programs and activities and as mandated by Federal, State, and County guidelines.
  • Supervision of at risk youth to include assisting participants to successfully complete their community service commitment either through direct supervision at community activities or remote service learning.
  • Monitoring community service work sites, and assisting with training at risk youth on basic job skills both at the work site and throughout the community.
  • Assisting in the development of new and/or potential community service opportunities for youth.
  • Participating in chart documentation as related to the program activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Two years of experience related to the program area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License.

  • Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when performing Spanish language interpretation during the course of work.
