About the position

The Program Associate position at the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment at UC Berkeley involves providing administrative support to the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE). The role focuses on managing communications, coordinating meetings, conducting research, and assisting with the preparation of reports and presentations. The position aims to enhance the effectiveness of the CSCCE's research and policy initiatives, contributing to the development of equitable early care and education systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support staff across the CSCCE with overall administrative functions.
  • Manage listservs and email platforms.
  • Coordinate meetings and assist with research and information gathering.
  • Fact check and prepare reports and presentations.
  • Create documents based on data compiled by staff, including report PDFs and presentation materials.
  • Update the CSCCE website and prepare newsletters in consultation with Communications staff.
  • Track CSCCE media coverage and assist with graphic design and accessibility compliance.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and processing requisitions.
  • Support travel arrangements and manage email and calendaring.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience preparing reports, manuscripts, and slide decks.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft and Google suites.
  • Documented strong report writing skills.
  • Experience in fact checking and organizing record systems.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population and establish relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and meet goals with attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous office experience and a high school diploma or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of critical issues facing the early care and education workforce.
  • Interest in labor and social and economic justice issues.
  • Familiarity with academic institutions, particularly UC Berkeley.
  • Experience with UC administrative policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of WordPress, Adobe Suite, Canva, Datawrapper, and Smartsheet.
