About the position

The Program Coordinator at Camp Shady Brook is responsible for leading and mentoring the program staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and values-based camp experience for all campers. This role involves organizing camp activities, overseeing staff training, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The coordinator will also play a key role in the summer Leadership Team, contributing to the overall success of the camp programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all staff in all program areas.
  • Develop camp games and themed skits/events.
  • Run discovery signups and schedule program area usage.
  • Create facility usage schedules for various camp activities.
  • Coordinate, organize, or lead camp activities and provide administrative support as needed.
  • Assist in designing and implementing Leadership Team training prior to staff training.
  • Prepare for, assist in leading, and actively participate in staff training and meetings.
  • Direct programs that meet or exceed ACA and state standards.
  • Ensure the health and welfare of campers and staff.
  • Act as a positive role model for campers and staff, demonstrating core values.
  • Observe camper and staff behavior, enforce safety regulations, and apply behavior management techniques.
  • Consult with the Associate Executive Director regarding staff performance and issues.
  • Complete routine forms including staff evaluations and incident reports.
  • Ensure proper care and storage of all equipment and supplies.
  • Set up and clean up for all programs and events.
  • Evaluate the current season and create a Program Coordinator manual.
  • Work stayover weekends as assigned and assist counselors with cabin groups.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous camp leadership experience.
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise summer staff.
  • Commitment to character development and YMCA values.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of YMCA Camp Shady Brook.
  • Previous experience and/or training in youth camping.
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications.
