The Program Coordinator for Community Engagement will play a vital role in collaborating with internal and external partners, including community leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers, and public health practitioners to identify health priorities and develop community health and engagement strategies. This position involves coordinating the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of community health and engagement initiatives, programs, and events within the Magoon Institute under the guidance of senior staff and management, ensuring alignment with community priorities and the organizational mission. The coordinator will act as the primary contact for Lurie Children's with community partners, residents, and marginalized populations across Chicago neighborhoods, particularly those disproportionately affected by health inequities. Building and maintaining strong relationships with community-based organizations, schools, libraries, parks, places of worship, businesses, and service providers is essential. The role also includes supporting the coordination of community and city-wide convenings, trainings, and workshops, ensuring diverse representation from various backgrounds and lived experiences. The coordinator will manage program logistics, track project expenditures, facilitate meetings and events, and maintain project materials and documentation to ensure timely and budget-conscious deliverables. Regular status reports on project progress, outcomes, and impact will be prepared, along with supporting administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, booking conference rooms, and compiling key takeaways from meetings. The coordinator will assist in developing and implementing communications, marketing, and social media efforts for specific community health and engagement initiatives, including delivering presentations to various audiences. Additionally, the role involves supporting program evaluation through data collection, gathering participant feedback, and monitoring outputs and outcomes to measure effectiveness and demonstrate impact. The coordinator will also facilitate connections between Lurie Children's healthcare providers and community partners to ensure access to health education and resources for children and families, engaging Lurie Children's leaders, employees, physicians, and trainees in community health efforts. Lastly, the coordinator will assist in grant and philanthropic applications and reporting to funders, as well as fundraising efforts under the guidance of senior staff, and will facilitate trainings and provide support for program assistants, students, interns, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community health programming or engagement, education, healthcare/public health, or administration required.
  • Strong project coordination experience and organizational skills required.
  • Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends, with travel throughout Chicago likely.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365 software required.
  • Experience with database management and survey software preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Commitment to health equity, diversity and inclusion, and community-driven processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Community knowledge and established partnerships within Austin and surrounding areas highly preferred.
  • Experience with project coordination preferred.
