About the position

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking a dynamic team member to work in-person at The Legacy Center (TLC), a research center focused on advancing the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ or sexual and gender minoritized (SGM) communities. This position is part of the UC Irvine Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health, which aims to achieve health equity through research, teaching, service, and public health practice. The Department of Health, Society, & Behavior, the newest department within the school, focuses on health disparities, social determinants of health, health behavior, and multilevel health behavior change interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting data analysis
  • Developing plans for strategic initiatives
  • Supporting research and programmatic implementation
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Community engagement
  • Participant recruitment
  • Research protocol implementation
  • Preparing detailed reports and manuscripts
  • Project and data management
  • Providing administrative support

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of health disparities and related topics impacting sexual and gender minoritized communities and their social etiology
  • Demonstrates ability to engage diverse communities in public health programs through outreach, recruitment, education, community organizing, and community advisory boards
  • Proficient in quantitative data analysis using appropriate software (e.g. STATA, R, SAS)
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • One or more years of experience in public health research or applied public health work serving sexual and gender minoritized communities

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in qualitative data analysis using appropriate software (e.g. Dedoose, Atlas.ti)
  • Working knowledge of human subjects protections and IRB applications
  • Spanish language fluency
  • Master's degree in public health or related area of study
