About the position

The Program Coordinator for the California Renewable Energy Laboratory (CREL) at Kern Community College District plays a vital role in the administration and implementation of educational programs aimed at fostering student growth in various dimensions, including educational, vocational, and personal development. Under the guidance of a designated supervisor, the coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the program meets its objectives and effectively serves the student population. This position requires a proactive approach to program management, including the initiation and coordination of activities that align with departmental and program goals. The coordinator will develop and facilitate orientations, seminars, and workshops that introduce students to educational and career opportunities within the renewable energy sector. Additionally, the role involves coordinating public information and outreach initiatives to enhance student awareness of the college's services and programs. Monitoring student progress is a key responsibility, which includes conducting follow-up surveys to assess program effectiveness and student success rates. In this position, the coordinator will also provide guidance to students regarding enrollment procedures and work to promote student retention through supportive measures. This includes advising students on available campus and community resources, as well as supporting internship programs as needed. Participation in educational advising training is also a component of this role, ensuring that the coordinator remains informed about best practices in student support and program management. Overall, the Program Coordinator will perform a variety of related duties to ensure the success of the program and its participants.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the administration of an assigned program; initiate and coordinate activities designed to achieve departmental/program goals.
  • Develop and coordinate orientations, seminars and workshops designed to familiarize students with educational and career opportunities.
  • Assist in coordinating a public information and relations program to familiarize students with the services and programs at the college; develop and coordinate community outreach activities.
  • Monitor student progress and perform follow-up surveys on programs, courses and student success.
  • Advise and assist students with enrollment procedures; promote student retention through support, encouragement and guidance; participate in coordinating program with outside participating agencies.
  • Advise and assist students in need with obtaining student services from campus and/or community resources through referral to these offices or agencies; support internship programs as assigned.
  • Participate in the educational advising training program.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree and two years of increasingly responsible program planning experience, including experience working with students in an academic environment.
  • Knowledge of college application and enrollment procedures.
  • Knowledge of student services available at the college.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and equipment.
  • Knowledge of uses and applications of computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to communicate information to individuals and small groups.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the policies and procedures of the college and assigned program.
  • Ability to interact with and motivate others.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
