About the position

The Kid Zone Coordinator is a vital role within the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, responsible for the supervision and organization of the Kid Zone area. This position focuses on building relationships and providing excellent service to all individuals utilizing the facilities. The coordinator will engage in supervision, risk management, injury prevention, and the facilitation of age-appropriate games and activities. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for children and their families. In this position, the coordinator will assist with recruiting, hiring, training, developing, supervising, and evaluating part-time staff and volunteers. Adequate staffing and scheduling are crucial to maintaining the quality of service. The coordinator will greet each family, introduce themselves, and ensure adherence to all procedures in the Kid Zone, including maintaining appropriate ratios and enforcing sign-in/out procedures. Additionally, the coordinator will oversee facility leads and provide weekly and monthly checklists to ensure smooth operations. The Kid Zone Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining monthly statistics on attendance and reporting these figures regularly. They will also oversee the overall appearance of the facility and its related equipment, assess supply needs, and communicate these requirements effectively. The coordinator will create monthly engagement calendars for child watch activities and execute family activities, programs, and events for members. Establishing and maintaining accurate communication with all participants, parents, and branch leadership is essential for success in this role. A positive attitude and professionalism are expected when interacting with members, program participants, and other staff. The coordinator will address member and guest comments, suggestions, complaints, and concerns promptly, helping to resolve minor incidents and notifying management as necessary. Completing incident reports accurately and thoroughly is also part of the job. The coordinator will ensure that program areas are kept clean, orderly, and attractive, assigning cleaning responsibilities as needed. Punctuality and proper attire, including a staff Y shirt and name tag, are required to exemplify the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility during all assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and organize the Kid Zone area while providing excellent service to all individuals utilizing the facilities.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, developing, supervising, and evaluating part-time staff and volunteers.

  • Greet each family and ensure adherence to all procedures, including maintaining ratios and enforcing sign-in/out procedures.
  • Oversee facility leads and provide weekly and monthly checklists for operations.

  • Ensure the overall appearance of the facility and related equipment is satisfactory.
  • Assess supply needs and communicate them accordingly.
  • Schedule the rotation of toys that need to be replaced.
  • Create monthly engagement calendars for child watch activities.
  • Plan and execute monthly family activities, programs, and events for members.

  • Help solve problems related to minor incidents and member complaints, notifying management personnel as necessary.

  • Ensure program areas are kept clean, orderly, and attractive, assigning cleaning responsibilities as needed.
  • Arrive on time, properly dressed in staff Y shirt and name tag, and exemplify caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility during all assigned shifts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • 2 years of experience required.
  • CPR, Pediatric First Aid with Airway Breathing and AED Certifications required or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Previous customer service, sales, or related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
