About the position

The Program Coordinator for the Next Chapter Program at The Salvation Army is responsible for assisting student residents in managing their school requirements and obtaining permanent housing. This role involves orienting and supervising residents, facilitating life skills workshops, and maintaining communication with educational institutions to support the residents' goals. The coordinator will also inspect living conditions and keep accurate records of the program's progress.

Responsibilities

  • Assist student residents in managing and completing school requirements.
  • Work with residents to obtain appropriate, permanent housing.
  • Orient and supervise student residents to ensure adherence to program policies.
  • Assist residents with adherence to their school requirements.
  • Collaborate, organize, and facilitate life skills workshops including financial literacy and time management.
  • Assist residents in attaining resources necessary to complete the program and move to permanent housing.
  • Inspect apartments and common areas for cleanliness and adherence to program guidelines.
  • Maintain proper records and statistics for the program.
  • Communicate with educational institutions regarding resident students.
  • Meet weekly with residents to ensure they are on schedule to meet goals and assist in resolving issues.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience working with college or upper high school level students.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army Social Service Programs.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution.
  • Skill in preparing reports and memos.
  • Ability to work with college-age students.
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations.
  • Ability to motivate students toward goals.
  • Ability to communicate needs and issues with higher level management.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with limited supervision.
