About the position

The Program Coordinator for the Sheriff's Administration is responsible for managing evidence and property control within the Sheriff's Office. This role involves maintaining accurate records, assisting with evidence requests, and ensuring compliance with legal procedures related to evidence handling. The coordinator will also perform administrative tasks, including data entry and correspondence, while developing effective relationships with law enforcement personnel and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, verifies, labels, records, and stores evidence, lost, stolen, and found property.
  • Assists other agencies with evidence requests and prepares evidence for transport to forensic laboratories and courts.
  • Monitors and empties evidence lockers regularly.
  • Maintains accurate chain of custody for evidence and drafts correspondence to law enforcement agencies and courts.
  • Prepares evidence for final disposition, destruction, auction, or return, obtaining court orders as necessary.
  • Researches case-relevant status of stored evidence for destruction.
  • Meets with law enforcement personnel regarding evidence as needed.
  • Schedules property hearings with the Justice of the Peace Office.
  • Prepares reports and provides secretarial duties for the Criminal Investigations Unit.
  • Completes Discovery Compliance paperwork for Investigators when requested.
  • Maintains electronic and hard files.
  • Performs receptionist duties, including greeting the public and answering phones.
  • Prepares various correspondence, including letters and memos.
  • Performs data entry functions and prepares invoices for documents or services.
  • Backs up front counter staff when needed.
  • Adheres to County and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with staff and public officials.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience with a law enforcement agency or prosecutor.
