About the position

The Skills Training & Curriculum Development Coordinator will play a pivotal role in Project Renewal's Next Step program, which is dedicated to assisting homeless, formerly homeless, and low-income individuals in securing competitive employment. This award-winning job placement program has been operational since 2000 and has successfully helped nearly 5,000 New Yorkers achieve economic security and lead fulfilling lives. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing training curricula, facilitating workshops, and overseeing a team of trainers and support staff. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of the barriers faced by individuals in the job market, particularly those with histories of homelessness, substance use, and criminal justice involvement. The Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Next Step and the Assistant Program Director to ensure the effective delivery of workforce development programs, including the Next Step Internship Program, Human Services Training, Employment Training Program, and Culinary Arts Training Program. In this role, the Coordinator will administer and facilitate a variety of workshops focused on soft skills, competency-building, internship preparation, digital literacy, financial literacy, and job readiness. They will oversee the performance of trainers, interns, and volunteers, ensuring that the team is skilled and passionate about their work. The Coordinator will also manage job retention processes, utilizing data and metrics to drive program improvements and ensure that performance milestones are met. This includes maintaining an up-to-date client database and preparing accurate performance reports. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing training schedules, setting performance expectations for instructors, and conducting regular evaluations to assess their effectiveness. Additionally, they will review and enhance training materials and develop new workshops that align with job market demands, as well as design alumni workshops and activities to support ongoing career development.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and facilitate a variety of workshops including soft skills, skill/competency-building, internship preparation, digital literacy, financial literacy, and job readiness classes both in person and virtually.
  • Oversee trainers, interns, volunteers, and support staff, building a skilled and passionate team.
  • Develop and plan curriculum, conduct client assessments and evaluations, and provide professional development for trainers and support staff.
  • Manage job retention processes to ensure the team achieves retention performance and collects necessary documentation for performance milestones.
  • Utilize data and metrics to drive program improvements and make informed decisions regarding training programs.
  • Ensure the client database is up-to-date and prepare accurate and timely performance reports.
  • Develop and update training schedules for each cohort and assign trainers to facilitate specific workshops.
  • Set clear performance expectations for training instructors and conduct regular evaluations to assess their effectiveness.
  • Review and enhance training curriculum and materials, developing new workshops that align with job market demands.
  • Develop skills gap assessments to identify areas of improvement across all programs.
  • Design alumni workshops and activities to support ongoing career development.
  • Lead and build industry-related partnerships and alliances that aid in program development.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary departments and work with volunteers, guest speakers, and employer partners to facilitate industry-related trainings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in vocational training and career development.
  • Minimum of 3 years of program management experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds or marginalized populations.
  • Strong understanding of training program design, curriculum development, and assessment strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Clear and compelling verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and using metrics to drive program improvements.
  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Passion for preparing adults for successful careers and promoting their professional growth.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, virtual platforms, and Salesforce or other CRM systems.

Benefits
