About the position

The Program Coordinator for Public Health Foundation Enterprises will oversee the Nurturing Roots Postpartum Doula Service, a grant-funded initiative aimed at providing in-home supportive services to African-American families in Los Angeles County. This part-time role involves hiring, training, and supervising postpartum doulas, developing outreach strategies, and ensuring the delivery of culturally congruent services to promote breastfeeding and assess perinatal mood disorders. The position is primarily virtual with some in-person responsibilities, focusing on enhancing maternal and infant health outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, mentor, and supervise two Certified Postpartum Doulas.
  • Supervise one African-American Fatherhood Program Coordinator.
  • Develop a plan to enroll 90 African-American mothers into the program and assign postpartum doulas for in-home services.
  • Conduct public speaking engagements to promote the program.
  • Develop strategies to ensure at least 70% of mothers exclusively breastfeed for six months.
  • Coordinate outreach to recruit eligible clientele through social media and community agencies.
  • Manage the enrollment of clients and assignment of postpartum doulas.
  • Ensure doulas provide comprehensive postpartum support and assess maternal and newborn health.
  • Supervise the Fatherhood Program Coordinator to ensure services for fathers are documented and effective.

Requirements

  • 3 years' experience as a supervisor/manager in a health or social service setting.
  • Graduate of a Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula or Perinatal Support Specialist training.
  • Certification as a Lactation Educator or Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.
  • Certified Childbirth Educator with relevant qualifications.
  • Experience working as a Postpartum Doula or in-home perinatal health visitor.
  • Ability to implement research-based health education strategies.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and conflict resolution ability.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural organization.
