About the position

The LA Conservation Corps (the Corps) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk young adults develop their skills and contribute positively to their communities. Since its inception in 1986, the Corps has engaged over 20,000 young individuals in various classes and service projects, focusing on job skills training, education, and work experience, particularly in conservation and community service projects. The primary mission of the Corps is to provide these young adults with opportunities for success, emphasizing personal and professional development through hands-on experience in meaningful projects. As a Program Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in implementing the Corps' mission by utilizing your leadership skills to foster the educational and work skills of Corpsmembers. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, you will supervise crew supervisors who are responsible for the direct oversight and development of Corpsmembers. Your leadership will ensure that the communities served receive high-quality natural resources and conservation projects, contributing to the overall mission of the organization. This position requires a proactive approach to managing program deliverables, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and facilitating partnerships with various stakeholders to meet program goals. In this role, you will be accountable for creating a safe working environment, conducting regular program meetings, and participating in management team discussions. You will assist in fiscal management by helping to develop and monitor program budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively. Additionally, you will oversee the scheduling of work crews, manage vehicle maintenance, and utilize various software platforms to streamline operations. Your responsibilities will also include staff management, ensuring that both staff and Corpsmembers meet departmental goals and receive the necessary training and support for their development. Responsibilities

  • Establish a safe working environment to prevent industrial injuries due to negligence or inappropriate safety practices.
  • Conduct regular program meetings to ensure operations and program goals are met.
  • Participate in weekly management team meetings to discuss program progress and challenges.
  • Communicate with program sponsors, local Community Based Organizations (CBOs), and other agencies to ensure scheduled goals are met.
  • Assist in managing program activities and annual budgets for assigned programs.
  • Develop specific program/project budgets and manage associated fiscal resources.
  • Enter and monitor contract budgets to ensure appropriate expenditures are within contract guidelines.
  • Supervise individuals reporting to this position and ensure program deliverables, goals, and outcomes are met.
  • Appropriate human and material resources to ensure successful project completion within budget.
  • Oversee the advanced monthly scheduling of work crews for seamless operations.
  • Work with management to foster new funding and work contract opportunities.
  • Organize, plan, and set systems to meet project goals, including deadlines and data collection.
  • Manage vehicle fleet by scheduling and tracking maintenance.
  • Utilize resources/platforms such as ArcGIS and Paycom to improve operations.
  • Track attendance, manage payroll, and oversee day-to-day logistical operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; AA or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least two years of experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in using tools appropriate for various work projects.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of accountability, responsibility, and dependability.
  • Ability to prepare concise and grammatically correct documents and reports.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • High level of interpersonal skills and integrity.
