About the position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator for the NJMS-Division of Infectious Disease. The Program Coordinator (PC) plays a crucial role in providing HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) services within University Hospital, Rutgers, and the surrounding community. This position is responsible for screening, assessing, testing, and educating individuals on HIV transmission and risk reduction techniques. The PC serves as the lead counselor among five other counselors and testers, ensuring the quality and integrity of the testing program. This includes maintaining up-to-date knowledge of testing flows in various areas to effectively cross-train staff and fill in for testers as needed. In the absence of the Program Manager, the PC assumes designated administrative responsibilities and assists with special projects, demonstrating leadership and initiative in program operations. The role requires a strong commitment to community health and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team. The Program Coordinator will engage with individuals from various backgrounds, providing essential education and support regarding HIV prevention and care. This position is vital in promoting public health initiatives and improving health outcomes within the community. The PC will also be involved in data collection and reporting to ensure compliance with health regulations and program effectiveness. Overall, the Program Coordinator is a key player in advancing the mission of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences by enhancing community health through education and direct service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) services within University Hospital and the surrounding community.
  • Screen, assess, test, and educate individuals on HIV transmission and risk reduction techniques.
  • Serve as the lead counselor among five other counselors and testers, ensuring the quality and integrity of the testing program.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of testing flows in various areas to cross-train staff and fill in for testers as needed.
  • Assume designated administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Program Manager.
  • Assist the Program Manager with special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 years of experience in the development and/or operations of community programs.
  • Certified in Phlebotomy.
  • NJDOH HIV counselor certification required.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Newark community.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
  • Master's degree in public health or a related field.
