About the position

The Program Counselor at Sunnybrook Children's Home is responsible for providing essential support and guidance to youth in residential programs. This role involves assessing residents' needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating access to resources to promote positive outcomes and overall well-being. The counselor will employ various therapeutic techniques and interventions to enhance the residents' emotional, physical, and educational development.

Responsibilities

  • Create and support an enriched campus environment for residents and staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of CPS Licensing standards and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Report incidents in accordance with CPS Licensing standards and Sunnybrook policies.
  • Promote the spiritual, physical, emotional, and educational development of residents.
  • Conduct initial assessments to determine new residents' needs.
  • Develop unique treatment plans based on assessments.
  • Provide assessment and counseling for mental health and emotional/behavioral issues.
  • Utilize effective communication to convey ideas and treatment plans to the treatment team and patients.
  • Employ individual and group counseling techniques based on evidence-based practices.
  • Provide weekly individual therapy to a maximum of 15 residents.
  • Conduct group counseling sessions at least once a month per house, ensuring documentation meets insurance requirements.
  • Bill Medicaid and other insurance carriers for services provided using electronic health records.
  • Facilitate family therapy and mediation as necessary.
  • Provide crisis intervention services, including after-hours support.
  • Assist with securing admissions to higher levels of care and liaise with hospitals as needed.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and monthly Family Team Meetings when appropriate.
  • Supervise houseparents and discuss residents' needs and interventions weekly.
  • Perform case management and transportation duties as required.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by administration.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed as a mental health professional (LPC, LCSW, etc.) in Mississippi or eligible for transfer from another state.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience with Medicaid billing and provider requirements.
  • Supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Excellent patient assessment skills and ability to evaluate mental health conditions effectively.
  • Familiarity with clinical research methodologies related to mental health treatment.
  • Knowledge of inpatient care protocols and direct support techniques.
  • Competence in using ICD-10 coding for diagnosis documentation.
