About the position

The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates to fill the full time Program Director position in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. This is a 12-month faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program beginning September 2024. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Contract type (i.e., tenure track or multiple-year track) and rank (i.e., Assistant or Associate Professor) will be determined based on experience and scholarship. Mercy University seeks a dynamic, student-centered individual needed to lead our undergraduate AAS Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership to the Occupational Therapy Assistant program in achieving its mission, goals, and expected program outcomes
  • Work with accrediting agency to maintain and/or achieve program accreditation, including submission of annual reports to accrediting agency
  • Coordinate programmatic assessment and assessment of student learning
  • Coordinate recruitment and selection of department faculty, adjuncts and staff
  • Oversee departmental budgets
  • Prepare materials and teach assigned courses
  • Participate in admissions activities to facilitate and promote student enrollment
  • Facilitate and serve as a channel for communication between faculty and staff within the Program, and between the department and the Dean
  • Oversee recruitment and work closely with program advisory committee
  • Develop and maintain external relationships with program stakeholders and fieldwork sites
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to program faculty
  • Encourage a collegial and positive program environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research, and service
  • Supervise program clerical staff

Requirements

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team
  • Prior teaching experience in an Occupational Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapy Program
  • Innovative use of educational technology and familiarity with online educational delivery tools such as Blackboard
  • Experience in teaching, research, inter-professional education and incorporating technology into teaching and professional practice is highly desirable
  • Experience as a clinical supervisor/clinical educator
  • Experience working as part of an interprofessional team
  • A minimum of 5 years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy which includes clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting
  • Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning)
  • Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants
  • 3 years of experience as a faculty member with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level

Nice-to-haves
