About the position

The Program Director for Health Information Technology at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is responsible for providing vision and leadership to the HIT program. This role involves program development and management, budget oversight, maintaining accreditation, and supervising faculty and staff. The director also has instructional responsibilities, requiring a strong background in HIT and effective teaching skills. This position is integral to the college's mission of transforming lives through education and fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership for the Health Information Technology (HIT) Program.
  • Manage program development and administration, including budget oversight.
  • Maintain programmatic accreditation and manage external partnerships.
  • Supervise full and part-time faculty and staff in the department.
  • Teach courses in Health Information Technology, maintaining a teaching load with administrative release time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology/Management or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
  • Three years of relevant professional experience in the field, including current medical coding protocols (e.g., CPT/ICD).
  • Three years of demonstrated teaching experience in Health Information Technology within a post-secondary institution or healthcare setting.
  • Experience with information technology processes/products such as database management, data analytics, and Electronic Health Record software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Health Information Technology/Management or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Greater than three years of relevant professional experience in the field, including current medical coding protocols.
  • Greater than three years of demonstrated teaching experience in Health Information Technology within a post-secondary institution.
  • Experience developing and maintaining an effective curriculum, including outcomes assessment and program evaluation.
  • Experience with Health Information Technology national accreditation standards and procedures, i.e., CAHIIM.
  • Experience with alternate instructional delivery systems, including a learning management system.
