About the position

The Program Director for Paralegal Studies at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) is responsible for providing vision and leadership to the Paralegal Studies Program. This role involves administrative duties such as program and curriculum development, budget management, and maintaining programmatic accreditation. The position also includes instructional responsibilities, requiring a strong background in Paralegal studies and the ability to teach effectively in both online and face-to-face environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership for the Paralegal Studies Program.
  • Manage program and curriculum development and oversight.
  • Develop and manage the program budget.
  • Maintain programmatic accreditation and external partnerships.
  • Supervise full and part-time faculty and staff in the program.
  • Teach courses in Paralegal Studies, both online and face-to-face.
  • Establish and assess student learning outcomes.
  • Schedule courses and assign instructional responsibilities.
  • Hire and onboard faculty and instructors.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for faculty and staff.
  • Address faculty and staff complaints and concerns.
  • Implement student success initiatives to enhance retention and graduation rates.
  • Develop enrollment success initiatives to meet enrollment targets.
  • Support students through advising and addressing complaints.
  • Plan and manage the program budget and resources.
  • Manage space and technological needs for the program.
  • Facilitate professional development for faculty and staff.
  • Conduct program reviews and assessments.
  • Oversee internship and cooperative education programs.
  • Engage with advisory committees and industry partnerships.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in the teaching discipline or related field.
  • Relevant professional experience in Paralegal or related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Paralegal or related field.
  • Experience with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board standards.
  • Experience maintaining institutional and industry-specific accreditations.
  • Experience with online instructional delivery systems and learning management systems.
  • Experience developing instructional teams and supervising employees.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with external grant funding.
  • Knowledge of strategic decision-making and problem-solving in an educational context.
