About the position

The Program Director will oversee the operations of a family shelter, ensuring quality care for residents and compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves managing social service programs, personnel, and budgets while providing leadership and support to staff. The director will also be responsible for program development, implementation, and evaluation, focusing on the needs of families with children in a shelter environment.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, supervision, and development of a shelter team with accountability for achieving outcomes.
  • Providing leadership, guidance, direction, and supervision to all shelter staff.
  • Conducting one-on-one supervision of direct reporting staff to assess and improve performance.
  • Identifying staff training needs and organizing training opportunities for professional development.
  • Conducting staff performance evaluations and implementing disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Overseeing all aspects of the site's operation including service delivery and compliance to contracts.
  • Developing program content to address clients' needs related to psychiatric stability and housing readiness.
  • Ensuring implementation of all Lantern and DHS policies and procedures.
  • Planning and organizing program activities to maximize performance targets.
  • Conducting regular staff meetings and ensuring accurate reporting for regulatory agencies.
  • Connecting with community leaders to build support and troubleshoot issues.
  • Developing and maintaining a Community Advisory Board.
  • Implementing crisis prevention and intervention strategies to ensure a safe environment.
  • Assessing serious incidents and reviewing incident management processes.

Requirements

  • MSW or MHC degree required with 5-6 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Supervisory and administrative experience required.
  • Previous DHS shelter program experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Effective leadership and team management skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and initiative.
  • Experience with electronic case management systems.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience navigating immigration and housing vouchers for asylee populations.
  • Experience working with families.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce database.
