About the position

The Program Director for Youth Suicide Prevention at Brooklyn Community Services is responsible for overseeing the implementation and coordination of the organization's mission and strategic plan, specifically focusing on the Young Adult Suicide Prevention Program. This role involves providing clinical oversight, managing program policies, and ensuring the safety and well-being of clients. The director will also supervise staff, develop trauma-informed approaches, and collaborate with external partners to support young adults facing mental health challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the overall coordination and implementation of BCS's mission, vision, and strategic plan, including the Young Adult Suicide Prevention Program.
  • Provide clinical oversight and support to the program by managing program policy and procedure, ensuring client safety.
  • Directly supervise Team Leaders and cover their caseloads in their absence.
  • Develop and review health and safety, behavioral management, crisis intervention, and clinical support protocols for young adults.
  • Implement trauma-informed approaches using ongoing risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Collaborate with schools, clinics, and hospital staff to identify interventions for young adults in need of social and emotional support.
  • Develop a sustainable professional development plan for all staff.
  • Identify resources and referrals for students and family members from school staff and community partners.
  • Conduct intakes and assessments as needed.
  • Supervise MSW interns with SIFI certification.
  • Provide clinical support and coaching for students to address social or behavioral issues in the classroom.
  • Facilitate individual and small group coaching/mentoring sessions with staff weekly.
  • Make safety and behavioral assessments regarding young adults' health and develop intervention plans accordingly.
  • Support student mediations, parent meetings, and restorative practice interventions at each site.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention support as needed, including mediation support.
  • Conduct family outreach and parent/guardian meetings as appropriate.
  • Conduct site internal file audits to ensure OMH compliance and follow up on contractor audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MSW required; LMHC, LCSW, LMSW/SIFI preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory and managerial experience required.
  • Experience with clinical frameworks such as Trauma-Informed care, restorative practices, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
  • Familiarity with early childhood, youth, and/or social service agencies.
  • Professional communication skills, both orally and in writing, with the ability to motivate others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google applications, and ability to learn Apricot Database.
  • Criminal background checks required.
  • Experience as a family counselor and with group work and family work.
  • Commitment to working with young adults and their families.
  • Experience working with culturally diversified individuals.
  • Experience conducting training and ongoing workshops; ability to plan events.
  • Knowledge and experience in child development, safety, and nutrition; adult learning principles, and family dynamics.
  • Knowledge of community resources and skills to link families with appropriate agencies and services.
  • Proven ability to establish professional boundaries and engage in professional behaviors that emulate a high level of ethics and objective/non-judgmental approaches.
