About the position

The Program Eligibility Specialist at the Arkansas Department of Human Services is responsible for determining client eligibility for assistance programs, coordinating services with providers, and preparing recommendations based on client needs. This role involves direct interaction with clients and their families, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, and managing fluctuating caseloads under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Determine client eligibility by reviewing referrals and interviewing applicants and family members.
• Explain eligibility requirements and community resources to clients.
• Request necessary information to assess client needs and forward requests for approval to appropriate staff.
• Schedule initial intake conferences with clients and family members to gather comprehensive background information.
• Evaluate requests and professional findings to grant, modify, deny, or terminate eligibility for assistance.
• Write individualized plans of care and coordinate with service providers for assistance.
• Interpret policies and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Serve as a liaison to other divisions and agencies to develop community-based program policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, or a related field.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws governing client eligibility for assistance programs.
• Ability to evaluate client information and assess needs for appropriate referrals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in using computer software for report generation and communication.

Nice-to-haves
