About the position

The Program Eligibility Specialist at the Arkansas Department of Human Services is responsible for determining client eligibility for assistance programs, coordinating services with providers, and preparing necessary documentation and recommendations. This role operates under general supervision and is governed by state and federal laws, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to manage fluctuating caseloads effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Determine client eligibility for assistance programs by reviewing referrals and interviewing applicants and family members.
  • Explain eligibility requirements and community resources to clients and assist with form completion.
  • Request and evaluate information to assess client needs and forward requests for approval as per established procedures.
  • Schedule initial intake conferences with clients and family members to gather comprehensive background information.
  • Write individualized plans of care and coordinate with private and public service providers for assistance.
  • Interpret policies and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and agency regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison to other divisions and agencies to develop community-based program policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, or a related field.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures in determining eligibility for assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws governing client eligibility for assistance programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, to produce reports and documentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community-based programs and services.
  • Familiarity with behavior modification counseling techniques.
