About the position

The Program Instructor at Youth Guidance is responsible for instructing, supervising, and engaging after-school students at Ira Aldridge School. This role involves creating a supportive environment that promotes positive choices and educational success among youth. The instructor will plan and implement lessons, maintain behavioral expectations, and assist students with homework, all while ensuring their safety and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, instruct, and engage students in after-school programs.
  • Plan and implement 2-3 lessons per week in subjects of choice.
  • Maintain behavioral expectations for students according to established methods.
  • Assist students of varying abilities with homework and projects.
  • Escort students to and from programs following the after-school schedule.
  • Assist in distributing publications and information to promote programs.
  • Support regular school day administration and staff.
  • Provide conflict resolution with students.
  • Work after school hours typically between 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's degree or progress towards a degree preferred.
  • Experience working with school-age children strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a school setting or with groups of 15-25 people preferred.
  • Ability to understand policies and procedures of the Chicago Public Schools.
  • Proactive with projects and timely follow-through.
  • Flexible with program assignments and adaptable to changes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in conflict resolution.
