About The Position

The Office of Student Support (OSS) helps develop a positive university environment through services and programs that encourage students to make constructive, healthy decisions, proactively pursue their goals and be responsible community members. Our team is composed of professionals committed to the holistic development of students through one-on-one support that provides access to campus resources, success coaching, mentorship, assistance navigating campus policy and procedure, response to students exhibiting signs of difficulty, and education that enables students to make informed decisions. The OSS Program Lead is responsible for key University-wide initiatives that are housed in the Office of Student Support such as mentoring and wellness/awareness programming. This position leads the UBalt Connects mentoring programs by providing direction, management, and improvement in order to enhance the student experience, retention, and student success. This position will also implement and manage a peer mentoring program at UBalt as part of a University System of Maryland (USM) statewide initiative. The OSS Program Lead is responsible for the marketing of the mentoring programs, pairing the mentees with appropriate mentors, tracking student success, determining, and implementing appropriate programmatic changes to improve student success, and communicating with participants. This position is also responsible for the coordination of educational awareness programming on wellness topics to include "U Matter Week" and innovative programs done in collaboration with campus partners and local or national organizations.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in student affairs, residence life, mentoring, programming, or other related area.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of student development, issues, and programming that impact student behavior, university policy, and student experience.
  • Ability to assess complex situations, render fair judgment, and maintain ethical and professional standards.
  • Capacity to cultivate and maintain relationships with university administrators, staff, faculty, and students.
  • Propensity to simultaneously plan, organize, and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing assessment strategies, processes and reports.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and the use of institutional software systems.
  • Knowledge of Title IX and other related regulatory compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Conflict Management, Applied Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience planning, executing, and evaluating programs or trainings.
  • Experience with wellness initiatives and/or programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the UBalt Connects and UBALT Peer mentoring programs.
  • Serve as point person for both programs.
  • Promote UBalt Connects to first-year, second year, and lower division transfer students.
  • Collaborate with University-wide advisory team to ascertain intersections with all mentoring programs on campus.
  • Follow USM guidelines to tailor program design and delivery of peer mentor program.
  • Update supervisor periodically on progress toward outcomes.
  • Supervise a Graduate Assistant dedicated toward mentoring programs.
  • Manage program budget with periodic review from AVP/Dean of Students and Director of Student Support.
  • Track and assess the retention and academic success of program participants.
  • Utilize best practices and industry standards to improve programs and the student experience.
  • Coordinate awareness programming for the campus community focusing on wellness topics.
  • Determine strategic goals for the programs based upon established objectives/guidelines.
  • Produce reports and analysis regarding student conduct and the UBalt Connects mentoring program.
  • Provide briefings to the AVP of Student Success/Dean of Students and the Director of Student Support on issues related to mentoring and wellness.
