About the position

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Program Management Director for Energy Generation/Transmission to lead and manage projects related to renewable and thermal energy generation, energy storage, and electric transmission across the western United States. This role involves overseeing a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring project execution aligns with client goals, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The position is hybrid or remote eligible and reports to the Program Management Vice President.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a multi-level, multi-discipline group focused on complex planning, permitting, and compliance projects in energy generation, storage, and transmission.
  • Supervise, manage, and mentor project managers, scientists, and field staff.
  • Set expectations on project execution and hold project managers accountable for safety, scope, schedule, budget, and change management.
  • Refine programmatic approach to client delivery and execution, including standardization of tools and processes.
  • Develop quality criteria with clients and implement quality assurance processes to ensure consistency and scientific rigor.
  • Maintain accountability for overall client experience and satisfaction, developing strategies to meet client needs.
  • Collaborate with other Program Management and Operations Directors to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, archaeology, anthropology, environmental planning, environmental science, natural resource management, or other science-related field.
  • Ten years of experience in environmental permitting and/or compliance, with at least three years in energy generation or transmission projects.
  • Three years of management experience, including supervising professionals and overseeing fieldwork and reporting.
  • Established credibility with federal and state agencies and clients.
  • Ability to lead meetings with clients and agencies.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with permitting and compliance on western federal lands.
  • Experience managing distributed employees and large, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with financial metrics and business planning.
