About the position

Morehouse School of Medicine, Office of Academic Programs and Affiliations (APA) is seeking a dedicated Program Manager for its future regional medical campus in Chattanooga, TN, in collaboration with CHI Memorial. This position is designed for an individual who resides in the Chattanooga area and is willing to travel to Atlanta regularly. The Program Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the development and management of the regional medical campus, ensuring that it meets the educational and community outreach goals set forth by Morehouse School of Medicine. This exempt salaried position will be supervised by the regional dean of the Morehouse School of Medicine for Chattanooga, with a dotted line reporting to the associate dean for APA. Additionally, the role will report to the manager of community benefits and diversity at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. The position is structured as 0.75 FTE for Morehouse School of Medicine and 0.25 FTE for CHI Memorial. The Program Manager will be responsible for arranging placements and rotations for MD and PA students, maintaining community engagement, and collaborating with local programs to promote healthcare careers. This role will also involve engaging with potential donors to support the regional medical campus and assisting in the application process for accreditation once a sufficient number of students are enrolled. The Program Manager will serve as a liaison for student issues, manage program budgets, and oversee the onboarding process for new students. The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering relationships with preceptors and community partners to enhance the educational experience for students. This position requires a proactive individual who can navigate the complexities of academic program management while promoting diversity and inclusion within the healthcare field. The Program Manager will also be expected to monitor and implement standardized processes for medical education functions, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and organizational policies. The role is dynamic and requires a commitment to community outreach and the advancement of healthcare education in the Chattanooga area.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange placement/rotations and clerkship schedules for MD and PA students in various healthcare settings.
  • Initiate and maintain community engagement through communication with students and clerkship directors.
  • Collaborate with community programs and educational institutions to promote the More in Common Alliance.
  • Drive recruitment of students from under-represented communities to the Morehouse School of Medicine.
  • Engage with potential donors to promote the regional medical campus and assist in fundraising efforts.
  • Search for external local learning opportunities and provide support for partnerships.
  • Support the regional dean in activities related to the creation of the MSM campus.
  • Assist in the application for LCME recognition for the regional medical campus once students are matriculating.
  • Facilitate a robust pool of local program applicants and physician/PA preceptors through outreach.
  • Attend and participate in existing pathway programs to drive interest in the CHI Memorial/MSM partnership.
  • Manage student relations and negotiate housing/transportation contracts.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for student issues and concerns, troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Monitor and oversee the program budget, maintaining records of expenditures and student data.
  • Lead students through program orientation and oversee the onboarding process.
  • Participate in the recruitment of preceptors for core clerkships and support them in educational deliverables.
  • Nurture relationships with preceptors and outside partnerships to enhance student experience.
  • Work with CHI Memorial stakeholders regarding preceptor compensation and budget compliance.
  • Develop and implement standardized processes for medical education functions and program elements.
  • Lead the process for procuring and updating affiliation agreements for clerkship clinical sites.
  • Organize and promote CHI Memorial community outreach programs across the catchment area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, social work, or a healthcare-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated 3 years of experience in community outreach, public relations, or human resource management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and basic Google platforms.
  • Ability to learn or experience working with financial management tools.
