About the position

The Program Manager for Black Diaspora at the University of Colorado Boulder is responsible for supporting and advocating for Black, African, and African American students. This role focuses on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment through programming, direct student engagement, and collaboration with various campus initiatives. The position aims to enhance the academic success and retention of Black students by implementing innovative programs and providing individualized support.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement high-impact programming for Black identifying students, including visibility campaigns and heritage month celebrations.
  • Provide meaningful connections for Black identifying students with student organizations and identity centers.
  • Create and maintain supportive and inclusive center spaces, implementing innovative programs that encourage communication across diverse identities.
  • Implement programming in response to national/local incidents affecting Black communities.
  • Foster relationships with Black student organization leaders for leadership development and community building.
  • Collaborate with teams in CISC for combined programming and outreach efforts.
  • Develop assessment measures to track university data and trends for Black identifying students.
  • Serve as a primary resource for Black identifying students, providing academic coaching and individualized guidance.
  • Support students in navigating university systems and achieving their educational goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate student interns and volunteers related to Black student programs.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources for additional support.
  • Create reflective spaces for students to celebrate and support their identities within the Black Diaspora.
  • Ensure responsible planning and expenditure of fiscal resources for programming and student recognition.
  • Collect and assess quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate program impacts on student retention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of post-bachelor experience with community-wide programming and advising underserved populations.
  • Proven experience in project management and student program planning.
  • Experience developing and facilitating diversity and inclusion presentations and workshops.
  • Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
  • Program assessment and evaluation experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in higher education administration, ethnic studies, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working with African and African American communities across the Black Diaspora.
  • Relevant professional experience in post-secondary education administration.
  • Experience in a campus-based student affairs position.
