About the position

The Program Manager for Camp and Outdoor Experiences at Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma Inc. is a pivotal role dedicated to fostering a love for the outdoors among girls in grades K-12. This position is responsible for the comprehensive development, planning, implementation, and management of high-quality outdoor programming, including resident camps and year-round outdoor activities. The Program Manager will work closely with the Director of Camp and Outdoor Experiences to align program development with the council's strategic business goals and ensure adherence to safety and security guidelines. The role requires creativity and planning skills to design engaging programs that cater to girls from diverse backgrounds, promoting the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and outcomes. The Program Manager will be expected to live at camp for up to 9 weeks during the summer, overseeing the delivery of camp experiences and managing seasonal staff. This includes hiring, training, and supervising camp staff to ensure a collaborative and safety-minded environment. The position also involves maintaining compliance with the standards set by the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) and the American Camp Association (ACA), as well as providing support during emergencies and crises. The Program Manager will coordinate budgets for programs, manage community relationships, and develop promotional campaigns to enhance participation in outdoor events. In addition to summer camp responsibilities, the Program Manager will also create and manage council trips and events during the school year, ensuring that all programming is aligned with the council's mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character. This role is essential in cultivating a positive and inclusive environment that encourages personal growth and adventure among participants.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and achieve council and department short-term and long-term goals in collaboration with the Director of Camp and Outdoor Experiences.
  • Hire, train, and supervise seasonal camp staff to ensure high-quality outdoor programming delivery.
  • Coach and supervise seasonal camp staff to foster a collaborative work environment and manage camp duties effectively.
  • Maintain compliance with GSUSA, ACA, and council health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Provide direction and support to camp staff in handling crises, emergencies, and medical responses.
  • Coordinate the completion of required forms and reports related to camp operations.
  • Collaborate with the Property department to ensure camp facilities meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Stay current with experiential/adventure education trends and promote effective use of camp facilities.
  • Commit to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness in programming.
  • Prepare evaluations and summaries of the current season, including staff evaluations and program reports.
  • Organize year-round programming events focused on skill building and adventure activities.
  • Prepare and coordinate budgets for program events, including grant budgets.
  • Manage customer inquiries and support functions of the customer care process.
  • Recruit, select, and manage adult volunteers efficiently, ensuring training availability.
  • Assist in achieving membership and retention goals through quality events and resources.
  • Cultivate relationships with community leaders and organizations to support retention efforts.
  • Organize and maintain Council assets and develop promotional campaigns for events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor leadership, environmental studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two prior seasons of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp setting.
  • Must meet the minimum age requirement of 25.
  • Valid driver's license within the state of employment.
  • Working knowledge of customer relationship management systems and data management software.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain strict adherence to safety and security guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications within the first 180 days of hire, including American Camp Association New Director Orientation and Youth Mental Health First Aider certification.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
