About the position

The Program Manager for the Center for Public Safety and Justice (CPSJ) at the University of Virginia plays a crucial role in supporting the Executive Director and senior program leaders. This position is responsible for managing program operations, coordinating research initiatives, assisting with marketing and recruitment efforts, and supporting proposal development. The Program Manager will ensure the Center's success through effective organizational management and stakeholder engagement, while also having the opportunity to teach in CPSJ programs as a non-tenure-track Lecturer.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Director in managing and overseeing day-to-day operations of the CPSJ.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support the mission and objectives of the CPSJ.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to plan, execute, and evaluate CPSJ's educational programs, workshops, and research initiatives.
  • Coordinate with SCPS communications team to manage marketing efforts for CPSJ activities.
  • Support the planning and execution of events, conferences, and panels.
  • Manage the operational budget in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Assist in preparing grant proposals and fundraising efforts.
  • Coordinate with teams to track program expenditures and monitor resource allocation.
  • Assist in fostering research and fellowship opportunities in public safety and justice.
  • Support the development of new educational and training programs.
  • Maintain relationships with faculty, advisory boards, and public safety professionals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with public safety leaders and academic partners.
  • Engage with alumni and community organizations to promote CPSJ's mission.
  • Assist in establishing partnerships with public safety agencies for joint initiatives and training programs.
  • Serve as a lecturer in various programs or courses as necessary.
  • Develop materials to support training and educational initiatives.
  • Responsible for a wide variety of organizational matters.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Four years of relevant experience in supporting and/or coordinating programs.
  • Demonstrated success in ensuring effective and timely program implementation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to develop long-range goals and objectives while managing multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated fiscal management and budget planning skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Awareness of and adherence to University of Virginia and SCPS policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong communication ability and demonstrated ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience with Canvas, Zoom, MS Teams, or Slack.
