About the position

The Program Manager for Community Schools at the New York City Department of Education plays a crucial role in overseeing the implementation and management of partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs) to enhance educational opportunities for students. This position focuses on driving policy decisions related to fiscal management and program design, ensuring that community schools effectively support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students. The Program Manager will work closely with various stakeholders to foster a collaborative environment that promotes student engagement and success.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation and management of various CBO partnerships in a cohort of schools supported by the Office of Community Schools.
  • Provide project management support to Community School Directors and/or CBO liaisons in each cohort of schools.
  • Conduct regular school visits to ensure quality programming and adequate student attendance.
  • Connect schools to DOE resources from different divisions to help meet specific needs.
  • Ensure that the cohort of schools has baseline fidelity assessment, a functioning and collaborative school leadership team, and a developed budget and work scope.
  • Facilitate data-driven meetings with partnership teams, including the Principal and Community School Director.
  • Support a results-focus at each school, providing feedback and assistance to hold school teams accountable.
  • Coordinate with City partner organizations that fund program components.
  • Identify and coordinate resources to support community school activities.
  • Coordinate with the Family and Community Outreach team to ensure adherence to protocols for parent engagement.
  • Support AmeriCorps members in delivering direct service and capacity-building for students and families.
  • Make fiscal policy decisions regarding resource allocation, work scope approval, and vendor contracts.
  • Develop and implement policies for innovative external programs to support schools in reaching benchmarks around mentoring and family engagement.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders on various issues.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders to present on programmatic content and evaluation results.
  • Assist with the preparation of professional development training for Community School Directors, Principals, and school teams.

Requirements

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational psychology, educational leadership, public administration, public policy, social work, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible professional experience in education administration, with at least 18 months in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible professional experience, with at least 18 months in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory, full-time professional experience, with at least 18 months in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity.
