About the position

The Program Manager for Experiential Service Learning at the University of Colorado Boulder plays a pivotal role in enhancing student academic success through community engagement and service learning. This position is housed within the Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) and is responsible for providing professional-level program direction and advising to service learning trip participants and leaders. The Program Manager leads a quality, experiential, student leadership program that emphasizes critical service learning as an outcome of participation. The role involves managing year-round service learning programs, ensuring that they align with the division's mission to support student success by creating inclusive environments that address the diverse needs of students. The Program Manager's responsibilities encompass a wide range of activities, including student advising, coaching, supervision, program development, community engagement, training development and facilitation, recruitment, and retention of student leaders and participants. The position requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to serve as an advisor and problem-solver. The Program Manager is expected to demonstrate energy and dedication to social justice and civic engagement work, and to be available on-call to support student and staff-led experiences throughout the academic year. This role is part of a dynamic team and reports to the Assistant Director of Service Learning in the VRC. In addition to program management, the Program Manager is responsible for curriculum and training design, logistics management, fiscal oversight, supervision of student leaders, partnership development, and evaluation and assessment of experiential service-learning programs. The position requires collaboration with faculty and academic advisors to enhance learning outcomes and promote critical reflection, as well as the development of comprehensive training programs for student leaders and trip advisors. The Program Manager will also manage the budget for experiential service-learning programs, ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, and will cultivate relationships with community partners to identify service opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional-level program direction and advising to service learning trip participants and leaders.
  • Lead a quality, experiential, student leadership program that teaches critical service learning outcomes.
  • Manage year-round service learning programs offered by the Volunteer Resource Center.
  • Advise, coach, and supervise student leaders and participants.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for student leaders and trip advisors.
  • Design workshops, seminars, and retreats focusing on leadership development and cultural competency.
  • Facilitate reflective discussions and experiential activities for participants.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop curricular components for experiential service-learning programs.
  • Conduct needs assessments and program evaluations for continuous improvement.
  • Manage all logistical aspects of experiential service-learning programs, including transportation and lodging.
  • Oversee the budget for experiential service-learning programs, including forecasting and tracking expenditures.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners and nonprofit organizations.
  • Develop assessment tools to measure the impact of experiential service-learning programs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of professional, related experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in training design and facilitation, budget management, partnership development, fundraising, program evaluation, and supervision.
  • Experience in service learning travel experiences in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge and experience in student and community engagement programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, social work, or related field.
  • Experience in social justice education and facilitation.
  • 3 years of experience planning and implementing co-curricular service-learning programs in a higher education setting.
  • Experience supervising or advising students or groups.
