About the position

The University of Michigan is seeking a dedicated Program Manager for Housing Support and Community Responsibility to join a team committed to fostering diverse, inclusive, and equitable student experiences. This role is integral to the Michigan Housing team, which focuses on supporting individuals of all identities through a restorative practice framework. The Program Manager will be responsible for case management leadership, collaborating with campus partners, and leading initiatives that promote student well-being and community engagement. The position requires a proactive approach to resolving community conflicts and facilitating restorative practices among students. As a primary case manager, the Program Manager will handle reports of student concerns and behaviors within the conduct system, ensuring that each case is processed appropriately. This includes meeting with students to provide support and guidance, particularly for those whose experiences have disrupted their daily routines. The Program Manager will also lead the Community Circle program, which engages students in discussions about community harm and restoration, fostering a sense of accountability and healing within the community. In addition to case management, the Program Manager will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising both undergraduate and graduate student staff who facilitate restorative community circles. This includes developing and delivering training sessions for Housing staff on restorative practices, ensuring that all team members are equipped to support students effectively. The role requires a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as experience in higher education or community settings that emphasize these values.

Responsibilities

  • Be a primary case manager of the M Housing reports of student concern and student behavior in the conduct system including assigning reports for processing.
  • Meet with students as a case coordinator related to student conduct, and to support students for whom an experience has interrupted their daily routine.
  • Collaborate with campus partners for follow up and supporting student needs.
  • Lead the community circle program to engage students regarding community harm and restoration.
  • Hire, train, and supervise undergraduate and graduate student staff who facilitate the restorative community circles.
  • Develop and deliver training to Housing staff regarding restorative practices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Conflict Resolution, Peace Studies, Higher Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Two years working in a higher education or community setting with responsibilities related to case management, student conduct, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.
  • Previous experience facilitating topics of social justice, diversity and inclusion, and restorative practices.
  • One year of supervision experience.
  • One year post-masters experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion work in a higher education setting.
