About the position

The Program Manager position at the Institute for Implementation Science within UTHealth School of Public Health in Houston, TX, is a full-time role focused on managing multiple research projects aimed at implementing evidence-based interventions into routine practice. The Program Manager will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators to develop, plan, and oversee all activities related to the assigned projects. This includes creating project documents, setting timelines, monitoring progress, addressing challenges, and delegating tasks effectively. The role also involves guiding lead coordinators and managing the research team, which includes supervising research coordinators and research assistants. In this leadership capacity, the Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of program activities, ensuring that deadlines are met, responsibilities are assigned, and project progress is monitored. The position may also involve managing the annual budget, negotiating service contracts, and reporting on project progress to upper management. The Program Manager will work closely with internal departments to explore strategic and collaborative opportunities and may assist in preparing progress reports and grant proposals for both private foundations and governmental agencies. Additionally, the Program Manager will interact with representatives from state, federal, and private agencies regarding proposals and funded projects, and may create and edit various communication materials for the department, including printed materials and web content. The role requires effective communication with community professionals to share objectives and outcomes, as well as preparing and delivering oral presentations at professional meetings. Human Resources activities related to direct reports, such as recruitment, training, and performance evaluations, may also fall under the Program Manager's responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of program activities, setting deadlines and assigning responsibilities.
  • Monitor project progress and develop, implement, and manage policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain the annual budget, negotiate service contracts, and authorize expenditures.
  • Inform upper management of key activities and provide periodic progress reports.
  • Work closely with internal departments regarding strategy and collaborative opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports and grant proposals to private foundations and governmental agencies.
  • Interact with representatives from state, federal, and private agencies regarding proposals and funded projects.
  • Create and edit various communications materials for the department/program.
  • Communicate with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes.
  • Prepare and make oral presentations at professional meetings.
  • Manage Human Resources activities for direct reports, including recruitment and performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of applicable experience.
  • Previous behavioral, clinical, and quantitative research experience is preferred.
  • Grant management experience (pre and post-award) preferred.
  • IRB experience - Check exempt status and submit study applications, protocol, and consent submissions.
  • Personnel management experience - recruitment, hiring, orientation, onboarding, performance evaluation.
  • International collaboration experience - working with foreign research teams.
