About the position

The Program Manager position at the Institute for Implementation Science within UTHealth Houston is a pivotal role that focuses on managing and overseeing multiple research projects aimed at implementing evidence-based interventions into routine practice. This position is integral to the research program's overall project management and development, requiring collaboration with project personnel to ensure the successful execution of assigned projects. The Program Manager will be responsible for developing project documents, setting timelines, monitoring progress, addressing challenges, delegating tasks, and guiding lead coordinators. Additionally, the role involves managing the research team, exploring funding opportunities, assisting with grant applications, preparing for audits, and writing comprehensive reports. The Program Manager will also supervise research coordinators and research assistants, ensuring that all project activities align with the Institute's goals and objectives. In this leadership capacity, the Program Manager will oversee all aspects of program activities, including setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring project progress. They may also manage the annual budget, negotiate service contracts, and report on progress to upper management. The role requires close collaboration with internal departments to identify strategic and collaborative opportunities, as well as interaction with representatives from state, federal, and private agencies regarding proposals and funded projects. The Program Manager will also be involved in creating and editing various communication materials for the department, preparing oral presentations for professional meetings, and managing human resources activities for direct reports, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations. This position is essential for driving the success of research initiatives and ensuring that the Institute's objectives are met effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of program activities, setting deadlines and assigning responsibilities.
  • Monitor project progress and develop, implement, and manage policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain the annual budget, negotiate service contracts, and authorize expenditures.
  • Inform upper management of key activities and provide periodic progress reports.
  • Work closely with internal departments regarding strategy and collaborative opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports and grant proposals to private foundations and governmental agencies.
  • Interact with representatives from state, federal, and private agencies regarding proposals and funded projects.
  • Create and edit various communications materials for the department/program, including printed materials and web content.
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations at professional meetings to share objectives and outcomes.
  • Manage Human Resources activities for direct reports, including recruitment, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of applicable experience in project management or related fields.
  • Previous behavioral, clinical, and quantitative research experience is preferred.
  • Grant management experience (pre and post-award) preferred.
  • Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes, including submitting study applications and protocols.
  • Personnel management experience, including recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluation.
  • Experience in international collaboration with foreign research teams.
