About the position

The Program Manager will oversee a portfolio of programs within Johnson Controls Navy Systems, focusing on supporting the U.S. Navy and major defense industrial base shipbuilders. This role involves managing program execution, customer engagement, and overall P&L management in a fast-paced environment. The Program Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize performance and ensure customer satisfaction while addressing technical challenges associated with complex chiller and control systems on naval vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Have full P&L responsibility with experience leading multiple firm-fixed price contract programs up to $40M.
  • Work closely and be actively engaged with Navy and shipbuilder customers.
  • Conduct regular reviews of program performance to ensure objectives are met, including budget and time constraints.
  • Lead and manage a diverse program team across various functions such as contracts, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Work cross-functionally to forge collaborative relationships to drive best practices and operational improvements in program planning and execution.
  • Lead and participate in contract negotiation and changes; coordinate preparation of proposals, business plans, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of the contract.
  • Manage program financials in accordance with Johnson Controls policies and standards.
  • Participate in strategic business planning, business development activities, and drive innovation to align corporate investments with customer needs.
  • Meet and engage with clients and stakeholders to establish relationships and understand requirements, forecasts, and funding.
  • Monitor, control, and communicate project, budget, staffing, schedule, and performance status; prepare status reports.
  • Identify and assess program risks and issues, and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Develop comprehensive and creative solutions to resolve program challenges and incorporate lessons learned in future planning and execution.
  • Establish policies appropriate for the function and recommend modifications to company-wide policies and practices.
  • Interact with management and others concerning matters of significance to the company.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to internal and external audiences.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years' experience in program management roles or related experience.
  • Proven ability to manage complex tasks to completion through coordinated execution of cross-functional support.
  • Experience overseeing indirect program teams to ensure cross-functional alignment of priorities.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and manage project plans including detailed task definition, resource requirements, schedule, quality, and cost parameters.
  • Strong foundational understanding of the PMBOK with practical application experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Strong leadership and critical thinking skills to enable sound business judgment.
  • Excellent communication (written & oral), interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • PMP certification desired.
  • Experience leading production programs in a Department of Defense (DoD) contracting environment preferable supporting the Navy.
  • Experience leading development programs is a plus.
