About the position

The Program Manager for Recovery Support Initiatives at UConn is responsible for managing a supportive program aimed at helping students in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders achieve their academic goals and engage fully in college life. This role involves developing initiatives for the UConn Recovery Community, fostering relationships across the university, and promoting health equity and inclusion among diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Envisions and manages student-centered initiatives associated with UConn's Recovery Community (URC).
  • Researches and implements best practices and evidence-based strategies to support the academic and personal success of college students in recovery.
  • Facilitates a program culture that supports the vision, mission, and core values of the URC.
  • Prioritizes equity-minded strategies that promote well-being in collaboration with marginalized student populations and campus partners.
  • Collaborates with teammates to integrate recovery programs into SHaW's overall strategic priorities.
  • Trains and supervises graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers facilitating recovery activities.
  • Collaborates with SHaW and university departments to host substance-free community building activities.
  • Partners with university colleagues to develop substance-free housing options.
  • Facilitates peer empowerment, connection, and leadership opportunities among URC members.
  • Develops and implements an outreach and recruitment strategy to promote the URC.
  • Connects students in recovery with campus resources and health providers as appropriate.
  • Consults with SHaW providers, treatment centers, and community health providers to coordinate student support.
  • Connects to the larger collegiate recovery community network and external recovery organizations.
  • Collects data to measure effectiveness of outreach and programmatic efforts; recommends changes to promote desired outcomes.
  • Performs administrative functions associated with the position, including managing confidential student information and funds allocated to recovery support initiatives.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Cordial Storrs House, including compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Serves as an expert resource on supporting students in recovery and recovery policies.
  • Supports departmental goals and participates in strategic committees.
  • Facilitates orientation programs and engages in campus-wide events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of related experience, including one year as an advanced team member.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the support needs of individuals in recovery from mental, behavioral health, and/or substance use disorders.
  • Previous experience delivering direct support to college students or equivalent populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently implement programs and resolve day-to-day problems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to form effective work relationships.
  • Ability to interpret and maintain confidential records and program data.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple activities with competing deadlines.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising project/program teams.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into program management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Lived experience with recovery.
  • Previous experience managing or coordinating a collegiate recovery program.
  • Previous experience supervising professional, student, and/or volunteer staff.
