About the position

The Program Manager Research Associate in Estuarine and Ocean Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is responsible for managing a portfolio of sponsored and non-sponsored funds for the Coastal Systems Program. This role involves overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supervising research projects and personnel. The Program Manager will act as a liaison between the Coastal Systems Program and various stakeholders, including government entities and private foundations, while also contributing to research coordination and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate financial operations of the Coastal Systems Program, including internal grant accounting and contract invoicing.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and review internal project-specific budgets and scopes of work.
  • Track budgets, prepare regular financial projections, and identify potential budget concerns.
  • Liaise with University administrative offices regarding grants, contracts, expenses, and invoicing for CSP projects.
  • Monitor billable deliverables on task-based contracts and ensure funds are spent according to sponsor-approved budgets.
  • Serve as a primary contact for CSP's research, grants, and contracts with municipal, state, and federal entities.
  • Organize and lead laboratory and project meetings, documenting outcomes and following up as needed.
  • Assist with field sampling logistics and participate in field data collection as needed.
  • Collaborate with the PI on drafting and submitting project reports, proposals, and research articles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field directly related to the duties of the position.
  • 4 or more years of related experience in project management and grant management.
  • Experience in oversight of staff and students, and cooperative experience working with government entities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a science-related field directly related to the duties of the position.
  • Research or consulting experience in a field closely related to the work of the PI/CSP.
  • Proficiency with project management software and electronic financial systems.
