About the position

The Program Manager, Safety & Risk Management at the Science Museum of Minnesota is responsible for leading and coordinating safety and risk management programs. This role emphasizes the proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of potential risks within the organization, ensuring that effective risk management practices are implemented. The Program Manager also leads responses to incidents and claims, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and promoting a safe environment for all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate SMM's Occupational Safety and Risk Management programs.
  • Plan and implement training programs for managers and employees on safety practices and injury prevention.
  • Develop and manage enterprise Safety policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of visitors, employees, volunteers, and third-parties.
  • Manage OSHA-related issues including inspections and compliance reports.
  • Perform safety audits to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Develop and lead safety orientation training programs for management and employees.
  • Represent management on the Labor Management Committee and provide insights on labor relations strategy.
  • Continuously track and monitor risks, updating assessments as needed.
  • Manage the Worker's Compensation program and claim lifecycle.
  • Lead safety and accident/injury reporting processes.
  • Conduct investigations to determine root causes of incidents and prepare reports.
  • Administer the Adverse Weather notification protocol and Emergency Action Plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (preferred) or high school diploma/GED.
  • 2+ years of experience leading Occupational Health and Safety and/or Risk Management programs.
  • 3+ years managing full-cycle Worker's Compensation claims.
  • 3+ years experience investigating incidents and composing related reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Worker's Compensation laws and procedures.
  • Occupational Safety regulatory knowledge and ability to translate into policies and guidelines.
  • Project management skills and experience developing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to flex communication style to varying audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Worker's Compensation Professional (WCP) certification.

Benefits

  • Starting compensation of $70,000 - $81,000 per year.
