About the position

The Director of Flight Operations for the Maryland State Police Aviation Command is responsible for overseeing all operational and administrative functions of the Aviation Command's Operations Division. This includes managing statewide helicopter sections, a fixed wing section, an Operations Control Center, a training section, and an unmanned aircraft systems program. The role ensures the safe and efficient execution of air medical transport, airborne law enforcement, and other critical missions, while representing senior management within the command.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct all flight operations functions of the helicopter sections including air medical transport, airborne law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security, and disaster assessment.
• Oversee pilot and flight crew member training, including an FAA-approved Flight Training Device program.
• Manage the Department's UAS program and oversee the UAS Coordinator and remote pilots.
• Accountable for all civilian Director duties as recognized by Maryland State Police Directives and Orders.
• Manage and direct the Operational Control Center.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Five years of experience in aviation administrative or professional work, with three years involving supervision or program development in aviation.
• Completion of 2000 helicopter flight hours as an FAA licensed Pilot-In-Command.

Nice-to-haves

• Three of the five years of experience should be within the past six years as a pilot in command of an aircraft operated under Part 121, Public Use, and/or Part 91.
• Currently or formerly approved as a Director of Operations under 14 CFR Part 119.71 or equivalent experience.
• Experience training in or operating a flight simulator and/or flight training device.
