About The Position

The Program Manager at UC Santa Cruz will provide advising and administrative support for student-initiated and student-governed programs focused on sustainability. This role involves mentoring student leaders, overseeing financial management, and facilitating leadership development within the Campus Sustainability Council, Student Environmental Center, and Education for Sustainable Living Program. The Program Manager will work closely with diverse student organizations to promote environmentally and socially responsible practices on campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment principles and procedures.
  • Skills in judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • Experience planning and producing large and complex events and activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development, mentorship, and organizational development principles.
  • Proven effective conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Experience mentoring student interns and supervising student employees.
  • Budgetary and financial experience sufficient to oversee a $250,000 budget.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective working relations with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to independently set priorities and complete multiple job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing transformational advising and development to student leaders participating in student organizations.
  • Advise student leaders on complex and sensitive issues related to sustainability.
  • Guide and mentor students in formulating sustainability-related projects.
  • Educate students in organizational development theories, problem solving, program planning, and leadership skills.
  • Advise organizations in developing goals, objectives, and governing documents.
  • Maintain knowledge of campus-wide sustainability goals and policies.
  • Support event and speaker logistics for advised organizations.
  • Advise on the Education for Sustainable Living Program academic course and assist with accreditation processes.
  • Analyze organizational potentials and recommend future directions or solutions.
  • Independently assess and authorize student organization events within established policies.
  • Serve as a liaison between student groups and campus units to facilitate major events.
  • Attend sustainability-related demonstrations and advise students on free speech rights.
  • Advise student organizers on university policy for organizational hires.
  • Keep relevant documents for advised organizations and maintain knowledge of their content.
  • Administer a limited public service program for student development opportunities.
  • Design and produce leadership development programs for advised organizations.
  • Manage budgets for advised organizations and provide financial management assistance.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders critical to program success.
  • Supervise student staff and manage hiring and evaluation processes.
