About the position

The Program Manager at Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) is responsible for facilitating various initiatives within the Academic Technology team. This role involves managing projects, developing new services, streamlining business processes, and enhancing organizational capabilities. The Program Manager will collaborate with stakeholders, provide leadership on high-priority initiatives, and communicate effectively about activities in Academic Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support and leadership to high-priority initiatives of the Academic Technology group, including project management, communications, status reporting, documentation, and execution.
  • Collaborate with HUIT stakeholders and Academic Technology staff on shared projects such as quick rollout of new tools, reacting to technology changes, and maintaining current services.
  • Actively organize statistics and other data across services.
  • Prepare materials (slide decks, documents, etc.) to tell the story of activities and initiatives across the department to be shared with partners and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate to review project plans and proposals and develop project objectives; identify project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project; calculate time frames and sequence the stages of the project.
  • Develop and manage project roadmaps.
  • Execute, coordinate, and perform technical aspects of projects; research issues.
  • Ensure the preparation and delivery of required project documentation.
  • Prepare and provide project status updates.
  • Contribute to communication plan and change management.
  • Absorb and leverage project-related technology to ensure effective project management and collaboration.
  • Apply Harvard University's IT technical standards and best practices.
  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
  • 5 or more years of related experience, including hands-on management of projects that involved multiple stakeholders.
  • Exemplary communications and writing skills.
  • Significant experience working with academic technology, software development, and programming.
  • Experience with data analysis and data visualization.
  • Proven attention-to-detail and ability to balance multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong analytical and listening skills.
  • Comfort with collaboration, open communication, and reaching across functional borders.
  • Proficiency learning key business processes, creating internal partnerships, fostering collaboration and recommending strategies that fit the culture.
  • Demonstrated service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.
  • Experience or coursework in organizational design, change management, and business process improvement highly desired.
  • Direct experience as a project manager or agile facilitator highly valued.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy Project Management Foundations course (or external equivalent) preferred.
