About the position

The Program Officer for India at Sequoia Climate Foundation will play a crucial role in supporting the development and execution of strategies aligned with the organization's mission to address climate change. This hybrid position involves conducting research, engaging with stakeholders, and managing grant processes to ensure impactful climate action in India. The role requires collaboration with the Program Director and other team members to identify opportunities and assess the effectiveness of initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the India Program Director and team in determining strategic priorities and operational plans through research and analysis.
  • Monitor developments in the climate sector to identify emerging needs and opportunities for action.
  • Engage with peer networks, funders, and government officials to develop strategies and identify suitable organizations for execution.
  • Present strategic analysis results through memos, presentations, and reports.
  • Support strategy execution and grantmaking, including screening potential grantees and preparing grant recommendations.
  • Serve as the point of contact for select grantees, monitoring the impact of grants and stewarding relationships.
  • Forecast grant payments and ensure compliance with yearly budgets.
  • Maintain grants database, budget spreadsheets, and grant calendars, coordinating grant processes for the team.
  • Assist with program development, tracking, and keeping leadership informed of critical deadlines and interests.
  • Plan and coordinate meetings, travel, workshops, and manage logistical arrangements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the climate or energy sector, climate change, or a related field.
  • Experience working in India or South Asia.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and one additional language spoken in India, preferably Hindi.
  • Experience managing Google Sheets and Excel for budgets and project timelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of the global climate organization ecosystem.
  • Strong quantitative skills.
  • Experience with energy transition and super pollutants.
  • Experience in government, non-profit, advocacy, or philanthropic organizations.
